Mac
Most Camera and Mic issues on Mac are because Here permission to access hardware is accidentally blocked OR because another application is trying to request access to the hardware. Note: if you're on the Desktop app, please head to this article.
Follow the steps below to fix:
1. Verify Here has permission to access your Camera / Mic in your specific browser
Chrome
- Navigate to chrome://settings/content/camera
- Click on https://here.fm:443 and ensure that both Camera and Microphone are set to Allow
- These settings can also be changed by clicking the Camera icon in the URL bar
- After changing permissions, please reload your Here.fm tab.
- Please avoid virtual camera or mic software (like OBS Virtual Camera) if you’re experiencing any kind of Camera or Microphone performance issues.
Safari
Note: We recommend accessing Here through Google Chrome or our Web App for the best experience.
- Open Preferences by hitting ‘Cmd + ,’ or by navigating to Safari > Preferences…
- Navigate to Websites > Camera and set here.fm to Allow. Do the same for Microphone.
- Please avoid virtual camera or mic software (like OBS Virtual Camera) if you’re experiencing any kind of Camera or Microphone performance issues.
- If you have a laptop, make sure your lid is open.
2. Clear Cache and Cookies
If you have verified your permissions are correct, you must reset your Cache and Cookies for your browser. Follow instructions below to do this:
If you have verified permissions, cleared cache, quit and restarted your browser and still have trouble, there most likely is a system level settings conflict. Please do a full system restart of your computer.
If after a full system restart you still have trouble, the issue is on the network level. Please disable any VPN or Firewall. You can run the following tests in your browser to determine if you face a network issue:
- Full WebRTC test—this test takes about 40 seconds and will check your network to ensure your computer can connect with a WebRTC service. Please go to https://www.webcasts.com/webrtc/ and hit "Start Test" at the bottom of the page
- If anything is Red, your network is most likely the problem. Try switching networks (tether to your phone, find a different network or hotspot) to see if you can connect
- There also could be a Firewall or VPN issue. Please disable any VPNs or Firewalls. Ping us at help@here.fm for more assistance
- Mic Test—this test takes about 3 seconds and will check to make sure your Mic connects to your browser. Please go to https://www.onlinemictest.com/ and run the test. If the test fails, quit and restart your browser to resolve
- Speaker Test—this test takes about 3 seconds and will check to make sure your speakers connect to your browser. Please go to https://www.onlinemictest.com/sound-test/ and run the test. If the test fails, quit and restart your browser to resolve
